Let me know how you like it 🙂

Wow! This looks so good! I use my slow cooker several times each week. Since I’m cooking for 7, I’m going to double everything – can’t wait to taste it! Thanks! I’m rating it ahead of time because I’ve been cooking for so long I can tell when something is going to be spot on!
Budget Savvy Diva
Oh thank you Marla 🙂 It really is a wonderful recipe. I love the touch of cumin in it.
Karen Patty
love it !!! 🙂
Tabitha Morriss
Guess what we are having for dinner tonight! Yum!
Jackie
Thanks for the great recipe.
Can the biscuit dough be substituted with something similar?
We only have sweet cookie dough mix in Australia and that just wouldn’t do!
Thank youJulie
You could make your own simple dough and use that. I would imagine it would work about the same way (and probably taste even better)! (Sorry for the American measurements)
1 cup all-purpose flour (or use self-rising and skip the baking powder)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milkMix the dry ingredients, then stir in the milk and oil until it makes a nice sticky dough. Drop in by spoonfuls.
Hope that helps! 🙂

Thank you! I was going to have hubby go to the store to get biscuits but this looks so much better and more healthy! 🙂
Jennifer
Was wondering if you had a gf spin to this recipe, because I know my family would love it. Thanks!
Amanda
I am from MS first of all, so I know that what dumplings really are is the southern equivalent of homemade noodles. Therefore, noodles could be substituted. You could use Tofu Shirataki noodles and it would be very healthy.
Brandy
You could certainly use noodles, but a dumpling is not a homemade noodle. It is more like a biscuit which is why canned biscuits work so well…but homemade biscuit dough is even tastier.
lisa
made this tonight and turned out awesome…im gonna add more chicken next time lol…def passing this on to family members
Budget Savvy Diva
I am so glad you liked it 🙂
Lee
Thanks for the recipe, I have this in the crockpot right now and can’t wait to try it. Will be done by the time we get home from work, and then will add the dough… the hard part will be keeping my husband away from it until the dumplings are done! I sometimes use frozen pierogies as ‘dumplings’, that works really well.. and even if they cook open, the potato inside just makes the broth creamier.
Melanie
Trying this tonight. Love these quick easy crock pot recipes ….esp this time of year -I have 2 sons who play little league baseball- Do not know what I did before Pinterest…;0)
Adreanne
This is a great recipe! I made it the other day, I really didn’t think it was like chicken and dumplings more like chicken and biscuits but it was a keeper recipe for sure!! Thank u for posting!
sarah
I made this tonight and it was really good. It was too peppery for my 3 year old, tho. I think I will omit the cayenne next time. I also used 4 chicken breasts instead of 2 because mine were much thinner, but they did just fall apart – yum! I’d also add more veggies next time. Great recipe!
Joyful_2010
I’m so glad you posted this… we have a 7-yr old & a 2-yr old and I was wondering if the spices would be too much. This is helpful feedback. I also wonder if the mushy texture would be an issue but I suppose we’ll just have to give it a try and see how it goes.
Dana
I always cut the biscuits into small pieces and bake them in the over first. Then I throw them into the crock pot at the end. They aren’t gooey and still have the softness of a dumpling. Hope this helps!
Jessica
Can I ask how long you baked the biscuits? Afterwards, did you put them in the crock-pot and for how long? Thank you! 🙂
Sara
About 2 hours before the dish was done 🙂
Asheley
The recipe says to “Cover and cook on low for 5 – 6 hours.” And then “About 2 hours before serving tear up the biscuit dough ( into 1/4ths) and place in the crock pot. I used all the biscuits but you can only use half.”
Does this mean if I am cooking this for a total of 6 hrs on the 4 hr I should but the biscuit in or is this an add’l 2 hrs of cooking?
Thanks! 🙂
jamie
I was going to ask this same thing. If you add biscuits at the 4hr mark or after total cooking time of 6hrs and then add more time?
Jaque
I think what she is saying is, she used all her biscuits but you can used half the amount if you dont like that many dumplings. and the 1/4ths is break your biscuits into fourths and put so that way they are equal sizes and cook in that time frame.
that is just how i read itCate
I’m still wondering about this too. At what point do you add in the biscuits? Thanks! 🙂
Watson
It is explained in the recipe .
Cate
All I wanted was clarification. THANKS, though.
Watson
It is right there in the recipe 🙂
PamelaJewel
It does indeed say in the recipe, total cook time 5 to 6 hours, and add biscuits 2 hors before serving. So if you were cooking it 5 hours, add biscuits after 3 hours. If you are cooking 6 hours, add `em after 4 hours.
Watson
Thank you for pointing that out — I wonder how one could miss that
Joanna
Hi,
If I don’t have much time, could I possibly cook on medium or high for about 2 or 3 hours instead? Or would it be better to do on low for 6 hrs? Thanks!
Budget Savvy Diva
I have never tried it in less time – it should work ?
Kathy M.
I made this tonight and it was delicious. I was surprised how much it makes. Thanks for the recipe.

I made it with frozen chicken and it works just fine!

Been making mine like this for awhile.. delicious!

Made it for dinner tonight. I was really surprised that the biscuits actually make a nice dumpling! Sooooo easy and very yummy 🙂
Lacey
This will be my fourth time making this today. Me and my bf LOOOOVE this recipe. So simple. The only thing I do differently is I don’t add the cumin, I’m a little afraid of it lol.
Debbie
you can alos use the flour tortorias the round ones and cut them in strips then squares and cover til done they are very yummy and taste like homemade dumplins
Dawna
Made this today and loved it! Cumin yum! Thanks!
Julie
I have made many different chicken and dumpling recipes and they have only been so-so. I made this one the other day and LOVED it!!!! It is so flavorful and tasty! This recipe will be a staple in my kitchen from now on! Thanks so much for sharing it! Blessings! :0)
Stacy
I made this and it was good, i think a little to much cumin, and not enough broth. Will adjust for next time. Ut it was somwthing very easy thst looked like a lot of work!
E. White
This sounds really good. I think I probably will substitute flour tortillas for the biscuits.
With the cumin, and other spices….. should be tasty.Breanne
Did you put the chicken in the crockpot raw or did you cook it before putting it in the crockpot with the other ingrediants?
Budget Savvy Diva
Raw

I’m making this tonight. Can’t wait. BUt i do have a question…. it says to cook for 5-6 hours and 2 hours before serving add the biscuits. So does that mean afte??
r say like 3-4 hours add the biscuits or cook for 6 hours first then add the biscuitsBudget Savvy Diva
So like around hour 4 add the biscuits
Kristen
Im cooking it right now in the crock pot its been in there for about 3 hours can I add potatoes?
Budget Savvy Diva
Yep
Kristen
Also I just bought a thing of pilsbury biscuits in the can will that work?

I don’t have any cream of chicken ugh!
Can I substitute with cream of mushroom?Budget Savvy Diva

If you only have a few hours to make this, skip the crockpot. Boil the chicken. It won’t take long with chicken breasts. You can then use the water from that for chicken stock. Throw everything in an oven safe pan and cook for about 30-45 minutes at 350.
Felisa
Throwing this in the crockpot right now…with more chicken, veggies and broth and adding garlic. Hope it comes out yummy!
Karen
I am making this now!! So excited for dinner
Kim Towne
I have this in my crock pot right now!! It smells so good and was so simple to make! I used 6 chicken breast and chopped a whole onion as well! I used fresh cropped celery and baby carrots in mine because I wanted to use what I had on hand! I also use Bisquick to make my dumplings and use a spoon to drop them in the pot! I love your recipe and I love adding things to good recipe’s!!!
Kim Towne
I made this yesterday!! Not sure why the date says today at 1:09 pm?? Oh well, anyway it was super good and warmed the belly! I had a full to the brim almost overflowing from the fluffy dumplings 7qt crock pot and fed 7 hungery adults!! Needless to say there were no leftovers!!! Yum….. I also added a few peeled and cut up chunks of potato’s and it helped thicken it up! So so good!!!
Lynnea
Sounds great! Will be making today. But have few questions: does it matter if you use the flakey biscuit dough? Or just regular home style? And do the veggies not get mushy? Can I use a mix of fresh and canned veggies? Like canned corn and fresh carrots for example? Thank you!
Bree
Thanks for that tip Julie, it worked perfectly! My recipe is still cooking for another hour but I’m excited to try it 🙂
Felisa
Love this recipe! I’m making it for the second time tomorrow. It is so easy and perfect for the colder weather. Thank you 🙂

Hello!
I am going to be making this tomorrow for dinner? I have 5 people in my family, will this be enough to feed us all or do I need to double it?Michelle
Hello! I am making this for dinner tomorrow. I have 5 people in my family, do I need to double this or would this make enough to feed everyone?
Jason B
I would double it for two reasons. first, you want to make sure you have enough. Secondly, it tastes even better on day two.
coachcarolleek
My thought exactly. Didn’t make much for us but it sure wqas good.
Sarah
I’m made this tonight! I haven’t added the “dumplings” yet, waiting for my hubby to get home from work first… But I did sneak a taste and OMG it’s awesome!!!
Budget Savvy Diva
It is pretty amazing!!!
Tiffany
Does the chicken need to be pre-cooked or do you just put it in the crock pot raw?
Budget Savvy Diva
Raw 🙂

TO DIE FOR. Oh man. I used fresh veggies instead of canned and added an extra cup and a half of chicken stock because I like mine a little more soup-ish instead of stew-ish and I can’t even tell you how good it was! My husband raved about it for hours after. It was so easy to make too!
Budget Savvy Diva
I am so glad you liked it 🙂 I love when husbands rave about our cooking 🙂
Vicki
My daughter started using refrigerated crescent rolls, cut into diamond shapes, instead of the torn biscuits in her crockpot chicken ‘n dumplings. Gives it a much richer, buttery flavor and the flatter crescents are a compromise between biscuits and noodles. Absolutely wonderful!
Jan M
Big hit at our house! I use boneless, skinless chicken thighs because we prefer dark meat, and a little more cream of chicken soup. This week I’m going to try the crockpot chicken & stuffing.
Budget Savvy Diva
I am so glad you liked the recipe 🙂 I love the chicken stuffing one — there are never left overs with that one

Hi, I was wondering why the first picture of this recipe (which is the same picture that is on Pinterest) shown at the top of this page looks different than the second one for this recipe. To be honest, the first picture looks more appetizing.
Budget Savvy Diva
Ummm the 2nd is while it is cooking
Ashley
Hi, This might be a silly question but do you put the raw chicken in whole or do you cute it up first?
Budget Savvy Diva
either way
Ashley
Made this tonight and it was really good! However next time I would add more chicken and only use half the biscuits instead of the whole can, using the whole can seemed to soak up too much of the juice. But otherwise it was really good!
Laney
Do you add the biscuits at the 4 hour mark and cook an additional 2hours or do you add them at the 6 hour mark an then cook an additional 2?

Regina
Hi, looks like a tasty recipe! I plan on making the biscuits from scratch and was wondering when the dumplings should go into to the pot. Is it about 3hrs into cooking?
Regina
When do the dumplings go in? Is it about 3hrs into cooking?
Beth
I used two large chicken breasts; 1/2 onion, finely diced; about 2 cups baby carrots, chopped into bite-sized pieces; a handful or two of frozen green beans.
After an hour of cooking the biscuits (used 1/2 can, as per reviewers), I added about 1c or so of frozen peas. Next time, I will add another 1 cup of stock and the entire can of biscuits. Sprinkled in some crushed red pepper about 15-20 minutes before serving. DELISH!

I found this on Pinterest several months ago and made it for my family…it has been added to our weekly rotation. I do get cracked up because my dad calls it chipotle chicken and dumplings lol…I assume it’s the cayenne pepper. My family loves this meal and it’s soooo easy to make. It even adapted nicely as a freezer meal. Thank you so much for the recipe…I actually am making this for dinner tonight…couldn’t ask for anything better on a cold snowy day.

Do you stir in the biscuit dough or lay it on top?
Di
Personally I put the biscuit dough on top and once it is all in, gently dunk the dumplings with the spoon to make certain they all get a bit of broth coating them. They will float back up. When it’s done, I gently stir it before serving.
Zakiyyah
Tried your recipe for the first time and I am in love. I never had dumpling before but dumplings before.

Absolutely love this recipe! ! My husband keeps asking me when I’m going to make it again lol. I’m gonna try it this time with some garlic, add more chicken, fresh baby carrots, green beans, corn, & cut up some potatoes. Added a little more than half a can of chicken stock to thin it out a little & used flaky butter crescent rolls instead of biscuits… yummy!
