Hiking area

Scenic park with hiking trails, archery, fishing, swimming & more amid waterfalls, cliffs & gorges.

This was a surprise! We did not expect to find this in Ohio. Beautiful trails through what almost feels like a rainforest with mossy rocks, ferns and waterfalls. Maps provide good direction as several trails intersect with one another. Beautiful area. Other reviews comment on how busy it was. We were there on a weekend and did not find it crowded.

So, I decided to take a break from the concrete jungle of New York City and ended up at Hocking Hills State Park in Logan, Ohio. And man, what a change of pace! This place is like nature on steroids. You’ve got everything here: waterfalls, caves, cliffs, and endless trails to explore. The scenery is absolutely stunning. I’m talking about those postcard-worthy views that make you stop and say, “Wow, this is real?” The trails are pretty well-marked, and there’s something for everyone—whether you’re into hardcore hiking or just want to take a leisurely stroll and snap some pics. I checked out Old Man’s Cave, and it was awesome. The rock formations and waterfalls made me feel like I was in some movie set.If you’re coming from the city, just know it’s all about embracing the laid-back vibe here. No rush, no traffic—just you and Mother Nature. The air’s so fresh it’s like a natural detox from city life. Oh, and if you’re into camping or staying in a cozy cabin, this is the place. I stayed in a cabin nearby, had a campfire, roasted some marshmallows—really went full nature mode.Honestly, if you need a break from the city chaos and want to see some seriously beautiful spots, Hocking Hills is where it’s at. Just don’t forget your hiking boots and a good camera!

Hocking Hills is such a gem in Ohio if you love hiking trails. My favorite are Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls and Ash Cave. The Hocking Hills Lodge is also the perfect spot for a romantic weekend getaway too. It has a restaurant, indoor/out pool and hot tub, corn hole and a couple of trails are located right behind the lodge.

We stayed at the state park campground which was amazing. The zero entry pool was wonderful and allowed my young kids to have a great time! Rose lake trail was well maintained and a great hike.We had a fantastic time exploring all over Hocking Hills!

One of the best places in Ohio! I always love spending a weekend in a cabin and hiking the caves and trails. I especially like the giant boulders covered in moss. It’s fun for kids as well.

I have been to Hocking Hills State Park many many times, but we visited right after a significant rain in early spring, so there were many waterfalls, the creek was full and the wildflowers were abundant. I have never had a more beautiful visit to Hocking Hills than this one! On this journey in particular, I did the hike from the Lodge to Whispering Cave to Cedar Falls and back. The trails were well maintained, but it was a little muddy, so dress accordingly!

Beautiful sites and trails! Something for everyone. You can't be at home amazing nature is and the peace you get there. I have limited mobility, but Ash Cave and parts of Old Man's Cave are handicapped accessible with paved trails and flat trails. Great place to just marvel at the sites and sounds, get grounded and rethink your priorities in life. There are charts available that show peak times for visitors, plan accordingly. At peak time on Saturday, there was a LINE of cars backed up on 664 just to get in the parking lot at the welcome center.

Trails were really cool and scenic, took plenty of photos! Definitely wasn’t the easiest trail ive completed in my life, but a challenge is fun on the occasion 😎Just a tip/warning, the area is very rural! If you like the city, hocking hills/the area might not be your ideal vacation spot!

I spent the day here taking the less traveled routes just in case I'm not able to come back. You'll definitely want to be in better than average shape considering all the steps. You can either walk the trails putting in a few miles or you can drive yourself to some trailheads. If you plan on driving then make your route ahead of time because there's extremely poor to no signal in a majority of the area.

We love coming hereIt's our third time back. And there was still new stuff to see. We also enjoy seeing the same things again. Most sights are kid friendly which is great too. We love all the hiking. We hoped to have more fall colors but it's still beautiful.

This was an amazing place to hike! The bridges are made to naturally blend with the landscape. Yes, it is muddy and a good rain makes the waterfalls that much more impressive! Highly recommend exploring this area. Take water and lunch so you can enjoy it all day!!

Fun place to hike. Lots of cool rock formations to look at and caves. Even without much water there was plenty to look at. Would like to come back when the falls have water

It was a really enjoyable & relaxing day for my husband, son & I. The park was very clean, well staffed with very friendly employees. Other visitors were very friendly. Several told us that they came there several days a week for exercise walking on the trails. The park was very clean, including the restrooms, several picnic areas also clean. We definietly will be back again.

Beautiful place and scenic landscape. The visitors center has all the basic necessities like restrooms, water fountain, vending machines, and some stores.Loved the hiking trails and the lower waterfall. People were dipping in there. The route is as beautiful as it can be. The best time to go is summer or fall.

Had a wonderful adventure exploring Hocking Hills State Park with my family! The park is a nature lover's paradise, boasting stunning scenery and a diverse range of Ohio's flora and fauna. We hiked through towering trees, marveled at ancient rock formations, and even spotted some local wildlife. The caves were particularly fascinating. It's easy to imagine Native Americans using these natural shelters for centuries. The park's rich history adds another layer of intrigue to the already breathtaking sights.Every vista we encountered was like a postcard come to life. Cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, and dramatic rock cliffs - the park's beauty is truly captivating.Hocking Hills State Park is a perfect destination for families who enjoy spending time outdoors and appreciate the wonder of nature.

What an absolute treasure ❤️ The state park is very well maintained and all the trails are well marked. There are a multitude of trails with varying levels of difficulty.I would suggest heading to the visitors center where there is a lot of info on the trails and clean restroomsI visited in late August so couldn't see any waterfalls but still the place was magical.

Surprised it is not a national park. Very cool place with many scenic spots. The park is filled with towering cliffs, caves, waterfalls and forrest. Many trails, parking areas, picnic areas, and a big visitor center. We went over the course of a couple days so broke it up into small hikes. Most of the trails were a bit rugged with rocks, roots and other stuff on them...also pretty hilly at most spots. Great hiking. Definitely a spot I want to go back to!

What an amazing state park. The views are fantastic. Paths are well kept and well signed. The visitor center has a map of each trail and tells you about them, how difficult, how long, how many steps, best places to park etc. We did 4/7 of the trails and we can't wait to come back and finish up the other 3.

Very scenic and gorgeous place. Plan ahead and research. It took a little while to find the visitor center to park, but there was plenty of parking once I did. Pay attention to the trail maps for hiking difficulties. I was on a blue trail and not ready for it. Blue is rated as difficult. In this case there were a lot of stairs, alot of them. I made it, but wasn't prepared for it. Can't wait to go back and explore some more. With better preparation and knowledge. So much more to see.

This is an absolutely beautiful park. The trails range from easy to challenging, which gives everyone an opportunity for fun and relaxation. The visitors center and restrooms are adequate and there seems to be plenty of parking. The real star of the show is God's creation. Beautiful waterfalls, caves, gorges, streams, trees, plants, and wildlife. If you want to unplug, and ground yourself in God's creation... This is it.

Great place to roam & wander. Most trails are not that bad in terms of effort. Stop at the visitor center... maps are easy to follow. Call ahead to check the "quality" of the falls. Went in November... and everything was in the dry season, so falls were nothing but a trickle.

This was such a wonderful place to visit with the kiddos before the start of the new school year! The cabin was absolutely gorgeous and so many amenities near. We enjoyed the Hocking visitors center, it was a great place for the kids to learn about the history, and the different animals. We did the hike, and would recommend this to anyone!

Beautiful place for hiking with outstanding scenery. Downside is that it is very popular and can get very crowded at times, especially around weekends. The lodge is a great place to stay but again crowds can be a problem.

Absolutely beautiful state park, Hocking is was gorgeous. We visited on July 29, 2024. We were pretty ambitious and hiked from upper falls all the way to ash cave (roughly 12 miles total. That’s what a worker at the visitor center told us) also summer time disclaimer. None of the falls are very active. But still work the trek. I’m adding a lot of pictures and videos of my journey, they will show you what it is like to go from the upper falls all the way down to ash cave. Starting from the visitor center you will walk a paved path to a bridge. Hopping on buckeye trail You will see the upper falls, devils bathtub, whale in the wall, eagle rock, old man cave, turtle rock, sphinx head, and lower falls. You will continue on buckeye trail until you cedar falls trail, you can either hop on yellow trail or stay on buckeye. We chose to hop on yellow and check out cedar falls, while there you can use the bathroom facilities. Hopping back on the buckeye trail you walk a gravel path until you get to a wooded trail. You will eventually see the fire watch tower. Keep on the trail and make it to ash cave. They also have restroom facilities. You do not need to endure a long hike to enjoy all of the places, most of them are readily accessible by car with just a short walk to the main attraction.
